What is the purpose of 1099 Techs?
1099 Techs is a free resource for independent professional IT technicians, or independent contractors. Our purpose is to provide information and resources to freelance IT techs so they can understand how this side of IT works, and be successful at locating contracts they are qualified for. For established techs we hope this site will be a continuing resource of who is hiring and how to market their services. For the tech just venturing into contracting, we will show you the ropes, teach you what you need to know to be successful, and help you locate contracts.
Who is 1099 Techs for?
1099 Techs is for any independent contractor who pursues contract work in the technology sector. This includes on-site desktop support techs, installation techs, programmers, web developers, satellite technicians, home entertainment and automation techs, cabling techs, IP camera techs, network troubleshooters, in short anyone who depends on their own hustle to locate the next contract and get the next check coming in.
What does it cost to join 1099 Techs?
Nothing!! Ever!! You may use the resources on our website for free, as much as you wish. Even registering as a tech with us is absolutely free. Right now, on our home page is a list of web sites that you should be listed with. Techs who register with 1099 Techs will get an e-mail notification anytime 1099 Techs gets a job listing in their area. . You do not have to register with 1099 Techs to use our site and resources, but we cannot send out this information unless you do. We do offer a fee based Premium Membership for hardcore support professionals that provides members with some extra goodies, but this membership is by invitation only.
How do I become a Premium Member if it is by invitation only?
You must request that an invitation be extended thru our website. You must already be a registered tech on 1099 Techs to make this request. Someone will call from 1099 Techs to complete the application process.
Why do you have this Premium Membership anyway?
One of the things 1099 Techs is dedicated to do is help technicians locate work in their area. We will always post jobs or contractor information that we are aware of for all registered users. Although we have only been live for a short time, national contractors have already started contacting us about our services and techs. Sometimes these companies need to have a service taken care of immediately. We have decided that these quick response calls will go out to our Premium Members first. Because we set our standards so high ourselves, we have decided that Premium Members must be able to show experience and provide references as to their ability to provide the service requested.
What does that actually mean?
For instance let's say that we get two bits of information:
Company A has won a project to install ATM's across the country and they need 300 qualified techs for this project.
Company B has had a router go offline in a clients office and they need someone to go troubleshoot the problem.
1099 Techs will handle these requests in the following way:
Company A's project will be sent out to all registered users in the normal manner, via e-mail. All interested parties will attempt to contact Company A and get on this project.
Company B's request would go out immediately to Premium Members who provide network troubleshooting services in the targeted location. These technicians will contact Company B and make arrangements to handle the call.
1099 Techs will still handle the call in the normal manner, and no commission will be paid to 1099 Techs from the technicians who perform the work.
Does 1099 Techs charge me for the work orders I get from them?
No, we do not charge a dime for anything except our Premium Membership described above.
What does the premium membership cost?

How do you make your money?
Our web site, 1099 Techs charges an obscenely small pittance for all job posters. National Contractors are always willing to pay a small finders fee for quality techs. We also have the revenue from the Premium Memberships to help with the day to day operating expenses.
Personally, the principal founders of 1099 Techs make their living as freelance IT professionals, day by day, boots on the ground.
